Minimarg Valley, located in the Astore District of Gilgit-Baltistan, Pakistan, is a captivating destination renowned for its natural beauty and tranquility. Minimarg Valley is about 36 km to the south of the Chilam Chowki checkpost. Found south of Astore, accessible through the Burzil Pass. Situated at an altitude of approximately 2,844 meters (9,330 feet) above sea level, this valley is surrounded by the majestic peaks of the Himalayas and the Karakoram Range. Domel Minimarg :

Upon passing through the Minimarg check post, the next destination, Domel, Situated 100 kilometers from Astore Valley, is a compact and narrow expanse in the North-Eastern region of Pakistan, sharing a border with India. Valley is a mere 15 kilometers from the Line of Control. The journey toward Domel unfolds with breathtaking scenery that captivates the hearts and souls of travelers. The majestic presence of tall trees lining the road further enhances the allure of this already exceptional locale. It’s a journey where the beauty of nature takes center stage, leaving a lasting impression on those fortunate enough to experience it. The best time to visit Domel Valley is during summer, especially during June and July.

Rainbow Lake Minimarg :

Rainbow Lake, an artificial lake built by the Army, located in Domel village, some distance away from the Minimarg valley in the Astore District of Gilgit Baltistan, captivates with its breathtaking beauty. Enhanced by the surrounding mountains and fed by freshwater streams, the lake’s allure is further heightened. The crystal-clear water undergoes a mesmerizing transformation, displaying a spectrum of colors and shades, presenting a rainbow in the true sense. The lake is famous for trout fish. Crystal Lake :

Close to Rainbow Lake there is Crystal Lake, a small yet captivating body of water where seven streams converge to form a picturesque scene. Burzil Pass – Burzil Top :

Situated at an elevation of 4100 meters, Burzil Pass links Astore Valley to Minimarg and Domel Valley, serving as the gateway to Minimarg, Kamri, and Domel. After crossing the pass, the road splits into paths leading to Kamri and Domel from Minimarg. Among the three valleys, Domel stands out for its exceptional beauty. Burzil Pass forms a segment of the ancient caravan route connecting the cities of Srinagar and Gilgit. Located about 5 kilometers north of the administrative boundary between Gilgit−Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir.

From Astore to Gori Kot and Gadai, the subsequent destination is the Chillam check post. This check post serves as the gateway to Minimarg and Burzil Top, both renowned for their extraordinary beauty. Positioned close to the Line of Control, Minimarg boasts a strong military presence with extensive deployments of military cantonments and formations, rendering it a highly secure area.

Minimarg Valley Road Conditions:

The route to Minimarg is scenic but challenging with narrow, winding mountain roads. For a safe journey, it’s best to hire a local driver familiar with the terrain. Minimarg’s remote location means longer travel times, and during harsh weather, accessibility is limited. It’s one of the colder villages in Gilgit Baltistan, with summer temperatures around 20°C and winter temperatures dropping below -18°C.

Islamabad to Minimarg Distance:

The road expedition from Islamabad to Minimarg covers a distance of approximately 12-14 hours and 670 km, subject to variations based on factors such as traffic and road conditions. As travelers navigate this route, they see ever-changing landscapes, ranging from verdant valleys to majestic mountain vistas. The journey’s duration allows ample time to immerse oneself in the scenic beauty, creating a memorable adventure en route to the captivating destination of Minimarg.

SOPs to Visit Minimarg Valley:

Situated near the Line of Control Traditionally, tourists needed permission and NOC from the Pakistan Army to access Minimarg. Since 2022, the area has been open to all citizens after 23 years. However, in this high-surveillance area, there are the following SOPs; Strict Conditions for Entry:

  • Stringent conditions apply due to high surveillance.
  • Requirements include the presentation of an original CNIC.
  • Motorbikes less than 150 CC and common vehicles are not allowed.
  • Only 4×4 jeeps/vehicles are permitted, readily.
  • Motorbikes 150 CC above 150 CC are also allowed.
  • Tourists should commence their journey early in the morning.
  • The entry time is from 10 AM and restricted after 4:00 PM.
  • An overnight stay requires a permission letter from Deputy Commissioner Astore.
  • You can rent Jeeps at Chilham Check Post, with costs ranging from 15,000 to 20,000 rupees.
  • Alternatively, tourists have the option to share a jeep with fellow travelers.
  • You have to Book Room Before Travel.
  • Room rates typically range from 2,000 to 3,000 rupees per night.
  • Strictly refrain from capturing images of sensitive installations or points.
  • Heavy fines and immediate expulsion or banning will be imposed for those found spreading garbage or litter.
  • Activities such as camping, tenting, carrying weapons, hunting, fishing, and flying drone cameras are strictly prohibited.
